About the Course

The Introduction to Cutting Workshop allows you to sample the art of gemcutting in an easy, step by step way.  Starting with basic cutting theory, we will learn about the three steps of cutting a gemstone; preforming, cutting, and polishing.

Over the course of one day, you will learn to cut and polish a natural gemstone which you will be able to take home.

The class provides an overview and a taste of what gem cutting is like and provides a great sample of what you can expect in our full Cutting and Recutting for Gem Business course.

Who Should Take this Course

The Introduction to Cutting Workshop has been developed for those that would like to try gem cutting but are not ready or don’t want to commit to a full course.

Gem Appreciators: Those who love stones and are interested in learning a bit about the art of cutting in a hands on way

Potential Hobbyists: Amateurs cutters who wish to see if they have what it takes to be a gemcutter before buying a machine at home or those who are curious about the Sri Lankan style handpiece machine.

How To Apply

Applying for a class at the Institute of Gem Trading is easy. Once you’ve decided which course or courses suits your needs, simply head over to the courses page and click Apply Online. From there you can choose which session over the course of the year that you’d like to attend.

Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. Class sizes are limited, and should there be no more available spots you will be placed on a waitlist and notified if a seat becomes available.

Payments can be made with a credit card or bank transfer after we confirm your seat availability.

No matter whether you’re coming from Thailand, Europe, America, or beyond, students from most countries should have no problem getting a 30 day Thai tourist visa. All of the IGT courses can be taken within this visa period as long as you don’t come too early or stay too late. You should be able to complete your IGT with no added stress about visas.

Tuition Fee

250 USD

Additional CostsThe tuition fee for IGT classes includes everything you need to complete the course including a variety of tools to use in the class as well as a price of gem rough for cutting that is yours to take home. Students are encouraged to bring their own loupe if they have one that they prefer.

Tuition fee does not include 7% VAT.
